reblooming Stella d'Oro

daylily Stella D' Oro My plants have begun to get a green bulb on them and are not blooming the yellow flower much any more. Do I cut them back? Is there anything I can do to promote more blooms or are they done?

Janie

Doug says that this green bulb is likely a seed pod. You can cut this off (cut off the entire stem) and it is said to help push the plant to more blooms. My experience with this older variety of rebloomer is that it isn't a reliable rebloomer in the north but it can give you a secondary bloom if well fed and healthy.

But yes, deadhead (remove flowers and stem when all the flowers on it are finished) and this should help kick it into blooming again.

Stella d'Oro reblooming

I continually remove the dead flowers and round seed pods during the growing season. The plants have kept putting forth yellow flowers into October. The number of blooms is fewer than the first bloom of the season but delightfully constant.
