Pruning Bleeding Heart

by Mary

When do you cut back foliage? After blooming, fall, summer?

Doug says he doesn't cut back the foliage on this plant. It doesn't really need pruning back except in the late fall if it's still around.

Many times the foliage will fade away by itself in mid-summer if the plant is in a high-light area. You could clean it up then. It will reappear in the spring in this case

But don't prune it back until it fades away itself.
