pond rock garden

What would you suggest for the edgin of this pond in Minnesota?

Doug says that if you want a rock garden here, then you're going to have to start by building the alpine garden. (You asked the question in the rock garden area you see so I'm answering it in that section.) And that entails a lot of rock moving and construction.

The thing you have to consider is that you're looking at a massive maintenance problem with rock gardening (and any other form of gardening as well other than natives/grasses etc you let run wild)

So unless you have unlimited budgets and a large gardening crew, I'd forget about creating a rock garden here on this large scale.

If you have the budget, then get a designer (check with nargs.org) capable of designing the basic rock work (plants come later) and able to do this kind of thing. It's a large rock garden project and could be stunning.
