need perennial shade ground cover that can take a dog's pounding. what do you suggest.

Doug says there is no perennial plant that will withstand dog traffic. Period. And there definitely isn't one that withstands dog traffic in the shade.

Try astroturf. Or heavy mulch.

This may sound tedious but try figuring out your dogs path, they usually don't stray from it. Then you can plant around their padded pounding.
