Pampas grass - not turning green this year

by Tamara
(Cornelius, OR)

My Pampas grass is mostly brown and it's June. I live in Oregon. What do I do to green it up? Thank you,

Doug says that a brown plant that's supposed to be green is mostly a dead plant. If you have some green shoots at the bottom (likely) then you'll have to cut back the dead/brown shoots that are not green. (Take care - the leaves on this plant are sharp) Sounds as if you have a lot of top death and need to regrow from new shoots (you might have had a very cold / wet winter that knocked the plant back.

But there's nothing you can "add" that will turn brown leaves green if they're dead.

My grass is having a hard time coming back in the spring. It is in a area where there are pines. Do I need to move them? divide them? What about fertilizer?
