old clematis gone!

My grandmother gave me a clematis vine 30 years ago. For years, it came up and bloomed reliably. Then I started pruning it in winter. Last year, I cut it back to the ground, and it didn't come up! Is it gone for good? I live in north Georgia and it is planted in the red clay right next to the house foundation. Any information is appreciated! Thanks

Doug says if you cut it back last year in the spring and it didn't come back all summer - it's very likely gone. Sorry.
