My French Lavender is dying.

Hi. I bought this lavender and grow it in 2 big pots a month ago. It grow pretty good but then all of the sudden one of the lavender is dying while the other pot is still growing and starting to bloom. I don't think I have over watered them or fertilize them. I don't know whats going on? Please help?

Regards,
Catherine

Doug says it could be any number of things but I'm betting on overwatering. Only water when the soil is dry to the touch. Then soak. If your finger comes away dry, water. If when you touch the soil it comes away with a bit of soil or damp, leave it alone.

Ah Ha! Soil Damp = Water + Soil Dry = Ignore!

Hi Doug...I just killed my French Lavendar because it looked thirsty around the root ball - but the leaves were crisp and erect...So, I managed to spare 1 of the 3 clustered stalks and did not cut off their dead siblings' branches until they were brown...I think this allowed the final stalk to survive...Like you said "You have to be tough with these plants..." which means(to me) using the "tough love" method I applied by depriving the surviving stalk of water until the leaves begin to look wilted - I then flooded the soil around the base (not directly on the plant) and made sure the water drained quickly - It worked! Now, it stands at attention as if singing La Marseillaise; I might just chime in! Many thanks for your HELP! John-Charles, Florida.
