lavender under snow

I hope to plant Lavender in front of our farmhouse. Expect volumous amount of snow to drop from porch roof (on to plants). I don't know if the plant is woody and will break when it falls or does it "dematerialize" over the winter. I prefer not to place protective cover if I can get away with it.
Thank you in advance
Doug says that lavender is indeed a woody plant and huge amounts of snow falling on top of it will break branches for sure. It does not rejuvenate from below ground (it isn't a herbaceous perennial but rather a woody shrub) so when you bust it up with heavy snow - you do wind up doing some major damage.
Protect of don't plant there. :-)
