Ideas for church garden box beneath sign

We have had extensive trouble with our flower bed beneath our church sign. It is approximately 4' by 8' and in full sun. We have tried recommended full sun plants but they die. Any suggestions?

Doug says you might try feeding and watering them and improving the soil. This seems to be the main reason "extensive" plants die. If you're getting a lot of dead plants, it's not in the plants, it's in the growing. Sorry to give you the bad news straight up like that but when garden conditions are hostile, plants can't be expected to overcome everything.

Having said that, you're in the South so you're dealing with extensive heat - you have to improve the conditions and go to a garden center asking for the toughest plants they have for full sun (likely some of the daylilies and annual geraniums but still - you have to help them)
