dividing iris plants
How should I divide iris plants and prepare them for giving to fellow gardeners?
Doug says - about 6 weeks after they bloom or in very early spring. Dig out of ground. Divide the plant so that each "fan" (an offshoot of the mother plant that has its own leaves) is separate. Cut off any wounding or sections with big holes in the tuber. Leave one or two sections in large clumps for yourself. Give away "fans" with small tubers and roots.
You can't kill an iris by digging and dividing it.
