delphinium in pot?

by Pam

Can delphinium flowers be grown in flower pots.

Doug says that any plant can be grown in a pot if you give it a big enough pot. In this case, a delphinium is a rather tall plant so you really do want to use a big pot (16" will do) so it doesn't tip over the pot. Small and light pots will flop all over the place in any kind of wind once the plant starts to bloom and you'll regret it when you break off the stem.

Delphinium in pot

I have successfully grown delphiniums in pots buried in a "holding bed"; then when there is a bare spot in the garden I just put the pot in that space, above ground. Just make sure to water the pot(s) regularly.
